Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage – WBG vs G2 – October 20, 11:00 CET

G2 and WBG both were victorious on day 1. The LEC team beat DK after a great 42-minute game with a lot of back-and-forth action. In the end, G2 still managed to take the win, despite having a tricky draft to play into DK’s composition.

The LCK team made the big mistake of leaving Hans Sama’s Draven pick open which demolished Deft in the bottom lane. All the next teams must pay attention to this champion, WBG included.

Speaking of WBG, they got quite a convincing win against LCS’s first seed NRG. With many proactive plays, they were able to get an early lead and push it, closing out the game before 30 minutes. The win was expected but what mattered was WBG’s clean gameplay. Now that they are facing a stronger team on paper, will they manage to bring the same level of dominance? I doubt. Let’s see why.

Top lane and jungle are the key

While every role is key in League of Legends, I feel like this match’s outcome will heavily depend on the top lane and jungle matchup. We saw how Weiwei is essential to WBG’s ability to push the leads and facing a player like Yike is definitely a tough task. He won’t get as much leeway as he did against NRG.

Their matchup, however, will be directly affected by the one in the top lane. BrokenBlade will go up against TheShy who is known to be extremely strong in isolation. The Korean player would probably get the upper hand in most matchups so it will depend on whether WBG wants to draft toward their top laner and how G2 wants to respond: let’s hope they decide to fight fire with fire, so fans can get one hell of a matchup.

Based on what we saw so far, however, I would probably give G2 the slight edge. DK was rumored to be one of the tougher opponents in scrims, and beating them was definitely a good sign. This doesn’t mean WBG is worse, but the LPL team does have the tendency to be less consistent. Regardless of whether you are an EU fan or not, this is one of the most exciting matches of the day: make sure to tune in and watch the game at lolesports.com, so that you can also earn rewards.

Prediction: G2 1 – 0 WBG
