It might not be time for the Grand Finals just yet but Team Liquid vs. Gaimin Gladiators was one of the most watched games at the tournament. It’s a series we’ve seen time and again this year and every time, Liquid fans have been left disappointed. This was their very last chance for redemption this year.
It would have been the perfect story arc but sadly for Liquid fans, it wasn’t to be. GG showed why they have stomped again and again. They’ve been a real thorn in Liquid’s side all year and they’ll be taking that into next season.
Some Real Spicy Dota 2
Game one had Team Liquid in top form. Things started out a little rough but despite falling behind on kills, Micke’s Luna remained at the top of the farm for the duration of the game. Liquid truly proved why they’re one of the top teams in the world. In a decisive fight at the Dire Rosh pit at 27 minutes, they turned the tide of the game. From there, it was a hop, skip and a jump to a game one victory.
Liquid did lose a little of their momentum in the second game, however. Gaimin Gladiators Ace and his Lone Druid pick really proved too much when coupled with a Harpoon and Radiance build on the bear. They proved that they deserved their place at the top of many power rankings at TI 12.
It was game 3 when things really became desperate for Liquid. Zai’s Centaur was completely overwhelmed by Dyrachyo’s Weaver. It really seemed that the game was largely over by 20 minutes.
What’s Next for Team Liquid?
It was a sorry end to a very rough year for Liquid. The next season is due to start relatively soon, with ESL Kuala Lumpur in December. That gives Liquid some time to reset and come back into the game.
It’s worth remembering that Liquid are not a bad team. It doesn’t really feel right to say that a roster shuffle is needed, although it may well be on the cards. They have played extremely well consistently, just not quite well enough. Second best just wasn’t good enough but one thing is for sure: this is not the last we will see of Team Liquid.
