The new season of Fortnite kicked off last week, doing something that’s made the game once again the biggest thing out there. Fortnite OG has brought back the chapter 1 map, weapons, loot pool, a complete break from the content we expected for Chapter 4 Season 5. Far from players being disappointed at a return to the earlier style, it’s helping break records for how many people play Fortnite.

The Fortnite player count’s previous record has been shattered! In the opening days of Fortnite OG, we’ve seen a huge spike in the player numbers. Basically everyone has jumped back in to try out the returning content in Fortnite OG.

Fortnite OG Breaks Player Records

Fortnite has often had live events which push it to the most played game. A lot of these were concentrated in the game’s early years. With Chapter 1 of the game returning, how many people play Fortnite has spiked once again too. We’ve actually broken all past player records. 44.7 Million players jumped into Fortnite to check out the Chapter 1 map in a single day. They also managed to paly 102 million total hours over Saturday!

Even a few days into the season, the player counts aren’t dipping. Players routinely have to sit in a queue to even get into the game. This short-lived revival of Chapter 1 for Fortnite OG has struck a nerve. More people are playing Fortnite than ever before.

Fortnite Player Numbers Spike

While Epic used to occasionally highlight huge Fortnite player numbers for live events, we largely didn’t know how many were playing Fortnite at any given times. Players were basically in the dark. In Chapter 4 though, an update began to publish player count numbers under each mode. We finally had a look at live player numbers. We have a decent idea of live player numbers, we can see exactly how records on how many people play Fortnite were broken.

Some interesting parts of these player numbers are where they’re concentrated. The bulk are playing Battle Royale! The original Fortnite game mode is by far the most popular. Zero Build Fortnite, while still, busy, isn’t getting quite the same spike. With Fortnite OG bringing back the original Fortnite map, it makes sense players want to experience it in the same classic mode.

Fortnite OG is showing he game’s combo of FOMO and fun creative multiplayer gameplay is still one that attracts huge numbers. It will be interesting to see just how many different people tried the game out over the month-long course of Fortnite OG.
