Grubby’s transition to Dota 2 and journey to Immortal

Grubby is one of the most prolific esports veterans still active in the industry. He boasts an impressive history in Warcraft 3, with 38 LAN titles and six World Championships to his name. His career includes playing for top-tier teams such as 4Kings, Evil Geniuses and MeetYourMakers. Post-retirement, he remained active in the gaming community, focusing on streaming and casting, notably for Heroes of the Storm and Age of Empires.

Last year he decided to pivot to Dota 2.

Grubby’s ascent to Immortal rank is noteworthy. Starting at 680 MMR (Herald rank) in September 2022, he climbed to an impressive 5643 MMR. His daily average MMR gain of 13.7 reflects consistent performance and adaptability in the game, a feat that has garnered admiration from fans and players alike.

Grubby casting or pro career in Dota 2 possible?

Having reached Immortal rank, questions arise about Grubby’s future in professional Dota 2.

No, we don’t instantly think Grubby is going pro. More along the lines of casting or being a desk host for Dota 2 events. However, trying his hand at some pro play is not out of the question either.

He visited N0tail in Portugal for The International 2023 and had active discussions on stream suggesting a deeper interest in pursuing Dota 2 at a higher level.

Grubby also has a keen interest in playing with Janne “Gorgc” Stefanovski, meaning competitive play at the amateur level could happen. Gorgc currently plays for Team Bald Reborn on an availability basis, so chances are Grubby might receive an invite from Gorgc someday. He even expressed his hopes of playing as support in Gorgc’s team without getting flamed.

Grubby’s unique skills fir Dota 2 perfectly

Grubby’s expertise honed in Warcraft 3 has been advantageous in Dota 2, particularly his skills with micro heavy heroes. He handles complex heroes with ease and it helped him in his climb to Immortal rank way faster. It remains to be seen if Grubby continues climbing the ranks and goes for a 10K or 12K push.

In the end, whether he chooses to pursue a casting career or continues to excel in streaming and content creation, it’s all a good addition to a Dota 2 scene that really needs some “fresh” talent. If none of it happens, at least his achievements in Dota 2 add an impressive chapter to his already distinguished esports legacy.
