Team Secret earns ticket into ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023
Team Secret faced Entity in a crucial lower bracket final, with the last qualifying spot for the main tournament at stake. The team demonstrated strategic prowess by focusing on the carry Muerta in the first game, balancing kills and objectives effectively. This approach paid off, with Secret overpowering Entity despite a closely matched net worth.
In the second game, Entity opted for an unconventional mid Spirit Breaker pick. Team Secret, however, remained steadfast in their strategy, aiming for quick gameplay. The game was tightly contested, but Secret’s strategic timing around the 40-minute mark proved too much for Entity, leading to their victory in both the game and the series.
Team Secret‘s path to ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 was challenging. Their initial performance in the open qualifier was unremarkable, and they suffered a 2-0 defeat to OG in the upper bracket final. Teams such as OG, Entity, Team Tickles, and Alliance appeared stronger contenders at that time.
However, under the leadership of Clement “Puppey” Ivanov, Team Secret began their comeback in the lower bracket. They achieved a narrow victory against Alliance in an 85-minute game and continued their winning streak against Team Tickles and OG, eventually overcoming Entity in the final.
Roster changes made all the difference
Following a disappointing season, Team Secret revamped the roster during the Dota 2 roster shuffle. New additions include Miroslav “BOOM” Bičan and Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng, with Tue “ah fu” Soon Chuan joining as coach.
The return of MidOne to Team Secret marks a significant reunion. He previously played with the team from 2016 to 2019, establishing himself as a top midlaner and contributing to several major victories. Despite initial doubts about the new roster, their qualification for ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 has demonstrated the team’s potential.
Meanwhile, Armel “Armel” Tabios and Lee “Heen” Seung Gon were moved to the inactive roster, and Saieful “Fbz” Ilham’s contract was not extended.
Secret’s focus should now be on maintaining their momentum and addressing any weaknesses to compete effectively at ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023. Judging from the participants, it’s going to be a tough competition ahead of Team Secret.
