Rekkles set to join T1 LCK Challengers team

You probably would have never seen it coming: Rekkles is reportedly joining T1 for the upcoming 2024 LoL season.

Rekkles will be playing as support on the T1 Esports Academy team

The Swedish European veteran has reached a verbal agreement with T1 to join their Esports Academy. This means the Rekkles will be heading to the LCK and play in the LCK Challengers League next year.

According to a report by Sheep Esports, Rekkles was often seen at the T1 facility in Seoul during Worlds 2023 and it was confirmed that the Swedish player was participating in scrims with the team in that period. Despite having options to play in the LEC, Rekkles agreed to play in South Korea with the organization that became four-time world champions.

From ADC to support

This marks an important year for Rekkles, as he decided to make a role swap from the ADC role to the support role. He publicly announced the intention when he parted ways with Fnatic earlier this year after what was quite a disappointing season, as the team only finished 9th and 8th (LEC Winter and Spring Split, respectively) when he played on the roster.

On the other hand, T1 ended up winning the 2023 World Championship following one of the most dominant tournament runs ever: only two games lost out of the 15 matches played, including a sweep against Weibo Gaming in the Worlds Finals.

Considering Rekkles’ influence and admiration from fans worldwide, this is going to be one of the most interesting moves of the off-season. Given the incredible talent pool of Korean players, it’s usually unlikely to see Western players play in the LCK ecosystem. The first player to do that was Sebastian “Malice” Edholm when he joined bbq Olivers back in 2019.
