The new The Walking Dead game The Walking Dead: Destinies leaves fans of the series speechless, we explain why
The popular series The Walking Dead is getting a new game spin-off with The Walking Dead: Destinies. We took a look at the title for you and tell you why this zombie game would have been better off not rising from the dead.
This year must end!
Admittedly, the competition for the title of worst game of 2023 is extremely fierce. Whether it’s Forspoken, Lord of the Rings: Gollum or Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, the list of disastrous game releases this year seems almost endless.
As the year draws to a close, one developer has apparently decided to really go for the jugular and really piss off the fans of one of the most popular series of recent years as well as the gaming community
With the action-adventure The Walking Dead: Destinies, the relatively unknown Brazilian development studio Flux Games (Kobra Kai) has released a game that is so bad it’s almost funny.
Although some really good games were released in 2023, this year simply has to end and hopefully with it the endless string of bad releases.
Of potato heads and brainless AI
As Rick Grimes, Shane Walsh or Daryl Dixon, we play iconic moments from the zombie series The Walking Dead and can also choose a different path from the original series at key moments.
In total, there are eleven playable characters who appear in 23 episodes and accompany us through the storyline. At first glance, this sounds like a solid game with lots of content and a well thought-out plot, if it weren’t for a few “small” points of criticism
In addition to the amateurishly animated movements and gameplay reminiscent of games from 15 years ago, the characters in Destinies look nothing like their originals from the series.
(Shane Walsh (Jon Bernthal), more reminiscent of Mr. Potato Head from the Toy Story films than his series role model.)
Whether it’s Shane, Carol or Rick Grimes himself, anyone looking for the familiar faces from the AMC series will often have to rub their eyes and wonder whether the Brazilian developers had sunstroke when they modeled these grimaces.
In general, the overall graphics of the game look out of date, dull and the washed-out textures could easily have come from 2013’s State of Decay.
As if that wasn’t enough, it seems as if the developers have tried to program the zombies as faithfully as possible and accordingly only gave them a decaying raisin instead of an active AI brain, which is clearly noticeable when interacting with them.
Unfortunately, The Walking Dead: Destinies is another monstrous flop based on a good template. To get rid of my frustration with this title and save you from it, I’d like to shoot this game in the head, to stay in the world of zombies, so that it’s dead once and for all and never comes back.
