The CoD community has been mourning the loss of a matchmaking feature for years. It could make a comeback under developer Sledgehammer

For those who have only recently gotten into the CoD series, the topic is only known from Reddit or YouTube videos. “Non-disbanding lobbies” is a form of matchmaking that, to the chagrin of many fans, does not exist in Modern Warfare 3. But developer Sledgehammer Games gives hope

CoD lobbies could become like they used to be

What exactly are “non-disbanding lobbies” exactly?  If you finish a match in Modern Warfare 3 or one of the CoDs of recent years, your lobby is usually disbanded.

The game will then find you a group of new team members and opponents. The system behind this arrangement is skill-based matchmaking, which has been heavily criticized by players.

In older CoDs, lobbies were not automatically dissolved and players stayed together in the same rounds for longer periods of time. So it could happen that you played with the same people for hours.

What should change now? As Reddit user Intelligent-Owl-5105 points out in a post, Sledgehammer explained in a recent AMA that they want to test the “non-disbanding lobbies”

Don’t no if y’all saw this but I know we’ve all missed having this.

This test will initially be limited to a smaller group of players. The developers want to see what impact this change has on their performance

If this experiment proves satisfactory, matchmaking for all players could change accordingly. So nothing is set in stone yet.

Why do players want this change?

Under the linked post is (bombard63’s opinion) that “disintegrating lobbies are the worst change in CoD in years “

With the following statement “playing with or against the same people for hours on end made the game so much better “, bombard63 also explains what the fans are currently missing.

Some players remember the joking arguments they had with other players for hours and (CanadAR15 adds):

“Even though the chatting is fun, it’s the lifelong friendships that have resulted from an evening together that I value the most. “

It remains to be seen whether Sledgehammer Games will grant the fans this wish. However, they seem to be willing to at least test the whole thing.

What do you think about “non-disbanding lobbies”? Do you miss this feature in Modern Warfare 3’s matchmaking? Do many perhaps just have a glorified, nostalgic view of the past? Did you take such friendships and rivalries with you from old CoDs? Let us know in the comments.
