The FNCS has finished up for 2023, but we’ve still got a few important events happening like Dreamhack Winter Fortnite. Over the weekend we saw tons of the best Fortnite players compete in this tournament, a Duos event taking place in Sweden. The tournament had a sizeable prize pool up for grabs and competition was tough, who won in DreamHack Winter Fortnite and how did the tournament go?
DreamHack Winter Fortnite
The Fortnite event went down over the weekend, with a nice mix of players showing up to take part. As a Swedish tournament, we mainly saw European players in competition. The event is fairly unique on the calendar though, there aren’t a lot of tournaments happening for Fortnite OG. As a mini-season, we’re not seeing the normal Majors take place. Events like this are a rare chance to see Chapter 1 esports being played by modern players. The finals for DreamHack Winter Fortnite didn’t disappoint either.
The DreamHack event started with a wider pool of competitors, with players competing in Heats. MrSavage and Pinq are two of the more recognisable names in the tournament roster, and they secured their qualification in the very first heat. This definitely set them up for a strong run in the finals.
Once we got down to 50 Duos competing in six matches, the pair kept the pace up. They managed a sizeable number of kills across the event and had some strong placements in all of the games. In the final match, they even managed to grab another Victory Royale.
With the points distributed up, it was no surprise that the pair ultimately won the tournament. They had a solid lead and showed impressive skills in-game. However, a few other Duos performed strongly too. PabloWingu and Bevvys managed some solid results too. Deckzee and Vic0 were both strong in the event too. They rounded out the top three placing Duos.
Wins like this still give the players a good lead heading into the next season and the return of the FNCS. While OG is a pretty distinct form of the game, their skill in these tournaments will make them a pair to watch in the Majors.
