Treyarch has announced when Modern Warfare 2’s Ranked Play mode will come to an end. It has only been online since February 2023, and it’s already being sunsetted in favour of Modern Warfare 3’s competitive platform, which will welcome the next generation of Call of Duty’s more talented players. Ranked Play serves as a perfect introduction to the more challenging side of Call of Duty, giving players more restrictions and a tougher base of opponents to play against.
It has its issues over the years, but it’s the place to be if you want to align yourself closer with the Call of Duty League. Typically, Ranked Play boasts the exact same loadout restrictions as the CDL, as well as the same map and mode rotation. It’s the closest thing you can get to actually playing in the Call of Duty League, and it’s traditionally dominated by the best Call of Duty players in the game.
So, when does it all end for Modern Warfare 2?
Ranked Play Is Evolving
It was confirmed by Treyarch (who maintains the Ranked Play modes for Call of Duty titles) that MW2’s Ranked Play platform will shut down when Season 06 ends. That’s on December 6th, so there really isn’t all that much time left to soak up any final rewards you’ve been aiming for. As we’ve highlighted, it has only been online for a short period of time, but things have to evolve, and Modern Warfare 3’s Ranked Play platform comes next.
It’s expected that MW3 Ranked Play will drop at the start of 2024, following the launch of the new Warzone instance. In the coming weeks, we’ll see Urzikstan take centre stage as the all-new Warzone map, but of course, players have been trialling that in COD Zombies since November 10th.
At the moment, we don’t know what Ranked Play will look like for Modern Warfare 3. There are usually a few rewards that are outlined, some of the rank emblems will be published by Treyarch, and some of the ladder mechanics will be made clear closer to launch. For instance, in MW2’s Ranked Play, the best COD players in the world were aiming for the rank of ‘Top 250’, which found itself populated almost entirely by pro players and cheaters.
It was a mixed bag for sure.
What Are The Maps and Modes For Ranked Play?
Well, we know what the maps and modes will be because they match the Call of Duty League’s loadout. Here’s what you’ll be playing when Modern Warfare 3’s Ranked Play platform goes live:
