Oh, there’s a huge update coming to Call of Duty: Warzone on December 6. It’s probably the biggest update in the game’s history, bringing countless changes, a new map, revisiting modes and perks, changing up the Gulag, and so much more. It’s almost impossible to cram everything into one breakdown, but I’ll try my best! It’s a monumental time for Warzone fans, as Al Mazrah is about to be forever extinguished, and from here on out, we’ll be playing battle royale on Urzikstan.

It has been a rough year for Warzone. Except for the World Series of Warzone, there has been almost no real attention on the game. It was damaged somewhat when Al Mazrah was released alongside Modern Warfare 2 in 2022, with slower movement, more open spaces, and some irritating mechanics being introduced. All that is being done away with in December, and this massive, staggering update is set to change the playing field once again.

Warzone is About to Change Forever

At the forefront of the update sits Urzikstan, the new map being introduced to Warzone on December 6. It’s the map that we’ve been playing Zombies on since November 10, and it’s a solid setup. It’s reminiscent of Verdansk in many ways, and that’s a huge win for players the world over. We’ll also see Vondel and Ashika return to the game, and later, Rebirth Island. In the Gulag, we’ll see a rotation of three map variants cycled at random, so you’ll never know what to expect.

From day one of the new update, you’ll be able to play Battle Royale, Plunder, and Resurgence, and there are in-season mode events in the form of ‘Slay Ride Resurgence’ and ‘Lockdown’. That first event is making use of the all-new driveable train in Urzikstan.

When it comes to new mechanics, Raven Software has spared no expense, offering up horizontal ziplines, Big Game Bounty contracts, red dots on the minimap, and of course, every movement mechanic from Modern Warfare 3 (2023) is entering the fray. That includes slide cancelling, ‘Tac Stance’, and running reload. We’ll also see the return of Champion’s Quest, and the addition of the never-before-seen ‘Covert Exfil’ mechanic.

It Gets Better

But that’s not all!

Various quality-of-life improvements are landing in Warzone with the arrival of Season 01 on December 6. Here’s the breakdown:

Loot Rarity returns
Dedicated ammo slots return
Tac Map icons return
Backup Pistol is awarded while swimming, to ensure you’re never unarmed
‘Manual Gas Mask’ mechanic now lets you apply the mask whenever you need it
Contract activation laptop

It’s important to stress that this is the bottom floor for Warzone. It’s day one – the first major update for Modern Warfare 3’s ‘version’ of the popular battle royale game. From here, it’s only going to get better… We hope!
