The new Overwatch season has gotten its first trailer this week, showing off some of the new skins and other upgrades. An unexpected new update is coming though, new Overwatch Weapon skins. These are going to give players a fresh way to customize their characters once the current Overwatch season ends.

Overwatch has always had a lot of cosmetics options. It has gone up a notch in Overwatch 2. However, Season 8 is finally adding a new form of cosmetic that players have been after for quite a while. Starting then, players will be able to go past the standard and Gold skin for weapons and start really changing things up.

Overwatch Weapon Skins Coming in Season 8

Overwatch Weapon skins have been announced as a new feature coming in the next major update. The Season 8 Overwatch patch will introduce a new skin just for weapons, Hard Light. By the looks of it, these are similar to weapon wraps in other games. They can be added to different heroes to recolor and pattern their weapons. This means it’s a cosmetic which is useable outside of a single Overwatch character.

More weapon skins are planned to come over the patches after Season 8. We could see these fleshed out to be a big part of your customization eventually. Season 8 will introduce a few new features too, including a new game mode.

In the past, we did get some customization for guns. A few particularly big skins remade the weapons to match. Plus, those who rose up the Overwatch Ranks could get the gold guns. However, it wasn’t a mix-and-match devoted weapon skin system. With this latest update players will have more control over how their character looks. With your weapon being a part of your skin that’s visible a bit more often, these are a fun way to personalise your experience even more.
