2023 has been a huge year for fighting games. We’ve seen loads of major fighting game releases this year and most are getting major esports tournaments too. One of the biggest has been Mortal Kombat 1, which has just had another brand-new tournament announced. The Mortal Kombat 10 v 10 showdown is a unique event that’s starting up this weekend.

Mortal Kombat has already had a major circuit, the Pro Kompetition. It’s not all about the major circuits though. This game is big enough for a greater variety of events and the MK 10 V 10 Showdown is a unique format. Team Panther have had an interest in MK quite a bit in the past and this latest event takes that even further.

Team Panther Launching Mortal Kombat 10 V 10 Tournament

Mortal Kombat 1 is about to get a bigger tournament format launching. It will be the Team Panther 10 V 10 Showdown. This is a tournament with a bigger team than we’re used to. The opposing teams will be in 10 v 10s, for a much grander experience. We might end up seeing some unique matchups of MK characters over the course of the tournament.

The event is kicking off this weekend, Saturday, December 9th. It’ll begin at 7 PM GMT. While a shorter event, there’s an impressive prize here. Players are competing for a $2,000 prize pool which is going to the winning team. For a fairly casual event i’s an impressive showing for the prize.

The Team Panther Mortal Kombat 10 V 10 is another great example of how fighting games can be interesting competitively without fitting the standard mould. Just this week we’ve seen tournaments like Ludwig’s The Match announced which equally push the boundaries. While the more standard rule set is great for those overarching circuit events, it’s great to see more and more going on for these games in unique formats.
