Since the start of VALORANT Esports, one team has been known to all — Sentinels. With their initial roster that included the likes of Tenz and Shazam, they won the first-ever VCT Masters. Since then, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the team but at the recent AfreecaTV VALORANT LEAGUE (AVL), we got to see them on the top of VALORANT esports again.
Is this the start of their comeback journey to the top? Let us find out.
How Did Sentinels Win Their First Major VALORANT Event In 2 Years?
The AfreecaTV VALORANT League (AVL) was an Off-Season Tournament that took place in Seoul, Korea. Within this event, some of the biggest teams in the Pacific region participated. Sentinels and Liquid were the two invited international teams for this event. Sentinels participated in this tournament with their new team for the upcoming VCT Americas League. This team consists of the following players:
Johnqt
zekken
TenZ
Zellsis
Sacy
Sentinels were present in group A which consisted of teams such as Paper Rex, DRX, and Full Sense. In the first game of the tournament, Sentinels faced the runner-ups of the VCT Champions 2023, Paper Rex. Sentinels won this game in overtime on the third map with a score of 2-1.
They then faced DRX and won that game 2-0 with ease. This qualified Sentinels for the Playoffs of the VALORANT OFF//SEASON tournament where they faced Team Liquid. The game was swinging towards either team, but Sentinels came up with a clutch to win the series 2-1.
In the finals, it was a rematch between Sentinels and Paper Rex. Many expected Paper Rex to win this time around and get revenge. However, this wasn’t the case as Sentinels managed a clean sweep. They defeated Paper Rex 3-0 with both zekken and d4v41 ending the 3 maps with 53 kills each.
With momentum on their side after winning their first major VCT OFF//SEASON Tournament in 2 years, Sentinels look ready for the upcoming VCT Americas League 2024 which is slated to begin in January.
