Here is the full guide on how to quickly learn and become a master at the newest LoL 2v2v2v2 game mode, Arena.
LoL Arena Guide – Introduction
The 2023 Summer Event in League of Legends – Soul Fighter – kicked off on July 20, with great hype coming from the community. Players have been dying to try the new game mode, LoL Arena. By combining elements from Summoners’ Rift and mechanics from Teamfights Tactics, the devs found yet another refreshing gaming experience that can cater to both tryhard and casual players.
The 2v2v2v2 game mode has a much faster pace compared to the traditional Summoners’ Rift while retaining important strategic aspects to increase the game’s complexity and make it rewarding to the best players. The team deathmatch game mode greatly resembles a tournament-style competition, where the last one standing is the winner.
In December, Riot brought back the game mode for the Winterblessed Event, making a few tweaks and adjustments to better balance the game. Aside from making Arena-specific changes, the game devs brought new augments and changed some of the cameos.
With that in mind, let’s break down all the crucial elements of this new game mode, and how you can get an edge over the opponents.
Pick and Ban Phase
Just like with the traditional 5v5 game mode, players will first enter the pick and ban phase. Each player will get one ban, meaning that each team can ban two different champions. Once those are decided, players will then be able to choose among the remaining champions.
While there was no select order in the first version, now players will have to choose in order. Each duo will get one ban and then choose one pick, with the second ban and second pick coming in later. This was done to better balance the team comps and allow more strategic planning in the champion select.
Additionally, players won’t get access to the rune page, meaning that there will be no customization in that front pre-game (you will while playing, but we’ll look into that later). Second, all champions will run with the same Summoners’ Spells: Flash and Flee. The latter can be upgraded to other effects in-game, but its initial effect grants extra movement speed for a few seconds.

How rounds work in LoL Arena
Once you chose your team duo, all four pairs of players will enter the Arena. Teams will fight one another each round, but before each fight starts, all players have will the chance to choose items from the shop with the gold that is assigned to them. The initial two rounds give 1000 gold, with the later stages giving 3000 gold. Since there are no intermediate components, players will be able to buy one full item whenever gold is assigned.
Moreover, players will start at level 3 from the first round and then gain a couple of levels each time, quickly increasing the overall pace of the game. Six rounds give you level 16.
Apart from the guaranteed gold in every non-Augment phase, players can also get extra gold by killing enemies. If you kill at least one enemy champion, you get 350 gold. There are special one-off elixirs called “Juices” which are similar to the potions in Summoners’ Rift and grant additional stats. Each costs 700 gold and there are four different types (although one has no effect).
LoL Arena Augments Guide
Augments are special power-ups used to boost champions in LoL Arena. Each augment has a unique effect that can greatly improve a champion’s power: you can either use them to compensate for weakness or further strengthen one of the champion’s advantages. Overall, it adds one further layer of complexity and it makes the game even more strategic. They are
You will be able to get 4 augments in each lobby, and they will be given in specific rounds during the match (second and fifth rounds, and later as well). Remember that you won’t receive gold whenever you have to choose augments, so keep that in mind while playing.
Every time you get an augment round, you will have to choose between three different augments of the same tier. The tiers are Silver, Gold, and Prismatic, with the latter having the strongest effects.
That said, you will also get access to two possible rerolls: by using it, you can get three new augments of the same tier, based on which rounds they are used in. Typically, you would use the rerolls whenever you get the Prismatic or Gold augments since they have the best effects. It’s worth mentioning that no more than two champions in a given game can possess the same Augment.
Each champion will have synergizing augments you want to prioritize, but some are generally stronger than others. So make sure to look at the entire list of augments and get a good idea of which effects you might be getting. Cameos in Arena – Explained
While the fighting and skirmishes in LoL Arena have similar interactions to the Summoners’ Rift game mode, Riot devs purposefully added elements in the maps to spice things up. Some of these are the cameos, which are brief appearances of champions from the Soul Fighter Event.
There are 10 different champion cameos, each having a special ability that can swing the fight in one team’s favor. For now, however, only five are available, with the other being added in the upcoming LoL Patch 13.15. Below you can find all the effects of the cameos: make sure to remember them, as they can make a difference between a win and a loss:

Any champion on either team can interact with the lantern on the ground to dash to Thresh’s location. If one of a team’s champions is caught and downed in the Ring of Fire, Thresh will move to that player’s location and throw his lantern toward their ally. Additionally, if one team outnumbers the other in alive members, he will always throw his lantern to the disadvantaged team.
