Dune: Part 2 already beats its predecessor in one respect: it’s longer. In fact, the sci-fi sequel is director Denis Villeneuve’s longest film to date
How long will Dune 2 actually be? We probably already know the exact answer to this question: the running time of the big sci-fi sequel for 2024 is said to be 166 minutes, or 2 hours and 46 minutes according to an entry in the Japanese film database (via X, formerly Twitter).
Dune: Part II will be the longest film by its director Dennis Villeneuve with a runtime of 166 minutes, according to Japanese film regulator “The Film Classification and Rating Organization”.DunePartTwo pic.twitter.com/2ugmpgO8eY

So Dune: Part 2 breaks a small record: It is the longest film by director Denis Villeneuve to date. Because Dune 2 is eleven minutes longer than Part 1 and two minutes longer than Blade Runner: 2049.
What else you should know about Dune: Part 2
Of course, the running time of a movie says nothing about its final quality, but Dune 2 may have sorely needed the extra minutes. Director Denis Villeneuve himself describes his sequel as an epic war film full of action, which brings more mass, substance and dance
with it.
In addition, a whole range of new characters such as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen (Austin Butler), Imperator Shaddam IV. (Christopher Walken) or Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh) are introduced, while a lot of old acquaintances show up again. For example Gurney Hallek (Josh Brolin) or Stilgar (Javier Bardem).
What happens after Dune 2?
Dune 2 also marks the end of the sci-fi epic for the time being, although Villeneuve has already held out the prospect of a third film . However, it will probably not be released for a few years anyway, as the director wants to devote himself to other projects first and the waiting time would fit in with the direct source material Dune: Messiah anyway.
Nevertheless, Dune fans need not despair: Because not only will part 2 start in 2024, but also the TV series Dune: Prophecy. This acts as a prequel and is set around 10,000 years before the events of the first part.
Dune 2 is scheduled for release in German cinemas on February 29, 2024 and in US cinemas on March 1, 2024. Originally, the film should have been released in November 2023. But since major film and streaming studios refused for months to grant actors and screenwriters fairer wages and better working conditions, Dune 2 was also postponed in the wake of the big Hollywood strike .
What are your hopes and expectations for Dune: Part 2 and how much did you like the first film? Are you happy that there is a TV series and a possible third movie on the horizon alongside the sequel or could you do without it with a clear conscience? Let us know in the comments!
