Apex Legends Mobile – a lot of potential but not leveraged properly

With the immense successes of games PUBG Mobile, Free Fire, and CoD Mobile, EA was quick to jump on the bandwagon with a mobile version of Apex Legends. The ambitious BR title was being built from the ground-up for mobile devices.

However, after its initial release, the game was riddled with a lot of bugs and optimization issues. This made it hard for the title to pull players away from its competitors. While these were later fixed throughout 2022, the game couldn’t come close to the popularity of PUBG Mobile and Free Fire.

EA later announced in early 2023 that the game would be shutting down on May 1. At the time, the company had said that this was because the game had fallen short of its bar for “quality, quantity, and cadence.”

It’s unclear what this meant exactly. First of all, while Apex Mobile wasn’t performing well, the game was only around for under a year. The title had a lot of potential if the game was marketed correctly.

Instead, EA chose to shut it down completely.

Will it ever come back?

Apex Legends Mobile is gone for good – or is it? In the Q3 FY23 Quarterly Results, EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, said that the company could bring a “reimagined and connected” Apex Mobile experience in the future.

It’s unclear what this meant exactly. Since then, the company hasn’t mentioned anything else about the game. Only time will tell if players will ever get to experience Apex on mobile again.
