LEC teams to watch in 2024

Karmine Corp – the Blue Wall is here

The newest entry to the LEC is definitely on my watch list in 2024. Not only because I want to see what KCorp can bring to the LEC in terms of fandom but also from a competitive standpoint. There are a lot of interesting names on the roster but there are also quite a few question marks that we need answers from. Upset and Bo come from a disappointing 2023 year on Vitality so they will need to deliver as much as possible. The same goes for Cabochard, Saken, and Targamas, who will have to prove their worth if they wish to stay in the LEC.

I’m confident in Yamatocannon’s ability to be a pillar for this roster so that is why I’m raising my expectations for KCorp. I don’t expect them to be competitive right off the bat, but getting into the group stage would be a good start for the Blue Wall.

Team Heretics – old glory looking for redemption

The 2019 G2 reunion plus Flakked and Kaiser? I’m definitely in for such a combination. Team Heretics need to pick up where they left off in 2023 and the lineup has the potential to do so. I’m a bit skeptical about Perkz’s performance but there is enough solidity and experience to make up for players’ individual mistakes. Flakked was delivering last year and I expect him to do the same, especially if engage supports happen to be back in meta which Kaiser is strong on.

My only issue is that the team needs to further evolve its identity: for now, I can only see this team playing through its bot lane. Can Jankos, Perkz, or even Wunder step up to take a carry role? This will be the key to TH’s 2024.

MAD Lions – The Iberian experiment

MAD Lions have decided to keep Elyoya and build a roster full of Spanish players, except Fresskowy in the mid lane. I don’t have much expectations from this roster in terms of results since taking four rookies can be quite the gamble. Nonetheless, seeing a team made up of a majority of Spanish players can be beneficial, especially given that the jungle and the bot lane used to play for the same team.

The main issue with this MAD roster is that it heavily relies on Elyoya once again. While I think the Spanish jungler can deliver, I’m hoping to see the other teammates quickly step up.

Team Vitality – change of strategy

While the lineup itself doesn’t look super exciting, the main reason why I want to focus on Team Vitality is their change of direction compared to previous years. No more LEC super teams with big names. Instead, the org chose good players with lots of hunger and determination to prove their worth, alongside two great coaches in Mac & Pad.

In one way or the other, Vitality has taken the approach MAD Lions had the previous years and it should be good enough to at least establish the team in the upper part of the standings. It won’t happen immediately but there are good foundations for success. Vetheo and Daglas will likely be the difference makers: their performance will heavily impact the rest of the team.
