OverActive Media has recently revealed its intention to acquire two titanic organisations – Movistar Riders and KOI. In a bid to expand operations into critical EMEA markets, the Canadian firm is looking to pick up in full two of the biggest gaming and content creation organisations in Europe. Until now, OAM has overseen the management of some prestigious brands, such as the CDL’s Toronto Ultra and the OWL’s Toronto Defiant, among others.
This acquisition sweep would see OverActive Media assume control of the MAD Lions and Movistar teams in League of Legends, VALORANT, Pokémon, EA FC, and Counter-Strike 2. It would broaden OAM’s reach in one fell swoop, giving the organisation access to entirely new markets and diversifying its portfolio by adding female and non-binary-based teams. It hasn’t yet been confirmed how much OverActive Media will be paying to acquire these brands.
Monumental Growth
OverActive Media is one of the most successful and popular brands in esports, a sentiment that’s set to be boosted by this potential acquisition. It was made clear in a non-binding letter of intent that OAM is seeking to buy out both Movistar and KOI and that the terms of those acquisitions are being outlined as we speak. It’s believed that this deal will expand OverActive Media’s direct audience reach by more than 100 million people.
In a statement, the current CEO of Movistar Riders, Fernando Piquer, spoke highly of the proposed deal:
‘The way to remain relevant in the Esports sector is to maintain growth to accommodate the needs of our audience. We’ve been consistent in this area through creating new divisions within the company, and now, in joining with OverActive Media, we seek to continue reaching new goals and milestones in the industry.’
This was followed up by a message on Twitter that expanded on that positivity:

It’s a monumental diversification effort that’ll see OverActive Media swell overnight, and that’s nothing but a good thing. In a message to the business, Adam Adamou, the CEO of OverActive, said:
‘Adding KOI and Movistar Riders to OverActive will solidify our position in Spain, EMEA and Latin America. Both brands are active in complementary esports titles, have industry-leading talent and social influence, top-tier relationships, and related services that bring strong synergies across our combined portfolio of assets. We have spent much time with Ibai, Gerard, Fer, Carlos, Gabriel and their respective teams, and we are all aligned in wanting to make an immediate impact through this combination.’
It hasn’t been confirmed when this potential acquisition will take place, but terms are being outlined now.
