At the end of December, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy gave an interview regarding the nudity debate. In it, he described his view on the topic and spoke out in favor of light clothing in streams.

In mid-December, Twitch caused confusion in the community with two rule changes. After initially allowing artistic forms of nudity, the company rowed back shortly afterwards and banned them. This particularly disturbed digital artists, who were unable to clearly define when a depiction was considered too nude. You can find a summary of these events in our corresponding news item.

The monetized nudity on Twitch

On December 23, acting Twitch CEO Dan Clancy spoke with content creator roflgator in a VR interview. In it, they talk about the difficulties of regulating nudity-related content. As soon as certain freedoms were given, some creators would take full advantage of them, so that stricter measures would have to be introduced again. In future, they want to try and find a middle way. Clancy comments as follows:

“In a perfect world, the people who don’t want to see the content wouldn’t see it. […] We need to think about how to make the site profitable for all our streamers. […] We need to find a balance for all streamers. […]
I appreciate these women. The black bars convey that the women are naked, even though they’re not naked underneath. It just seems that way. […] These women who earn their money with content are not hurting anyone. They are adults and people choose to watch them do it. They shouldn’t experience the abuse that occurred. “

“The least of the problems “

With regard to the protection of minors, Clancy explained that nudity was less of a problem. It is much more about the fact that the constant use of social media is harmful to young people, as some studies have shown. In-person socialization is much more important for the growth of young people than making contact via social media. Twitch is the least of the problems here.

Accordingly, it can be assumed that nudity will find its way back to Twitch. Only time will tell what the regulations will look like
