Here is everything you need to know about one of the characters in Arcane who will be added to the LoL roster: Ambessa Medarda.
A first for League of Legends
Riot kicked off 2024 in one of the most explosive ways possible. Aside from the reworked Summoner’s Rift, itemization rework, ranked changes, and the upcoming champion Smolder, the developer made another huge announcement for season 14.
One of the characters from Arcane, Riot’s animated series, will be stepping into League of Legends as one of the upcoming champions. This marks a first for the company, as Ambessa Medarda will transition from Arcane to LoL and not vice-versa. Previously, champions were first created in the game and then brought to Arcane, just like Jinx, Vi, Jayce, and many more.
But who is Ambessa Medarda?
For those who are not familiar with the series, Ambessa Medarda is the mother of Mel Medarda and she’s first introduced toward the end of the first season of Arcane. A powerful warlord and stateswoman in Noxus, she and her daughter joined forces in Piltover to force a conflict between the city and the underground city of Zaun. In the series, however, her daughter refused and agreed to Jayce’s proposal of peace, taking off the family ring in the process.
While it’s still unclear how the story will develop in the second season of Arcane, we will likely see progress in the relationship between Mel and Ambessa. Players already have a clear idea of her looks but Riot is still yet to confirm anything else, including her release date, abilities, and much more. Based on her looks and her Noxian origins, some have speculated to see her as a tank or a bruiser in League of Legends.
Aside from Ambessa Medarda, League devs have announced a lot of Arcane content coming to League of Legends later this year, including a VGU for one of the show’s key characters. Who will it be? We’ll have to wait a bit to find out.
