Diablo 4 will receive a free update in March that unlocks ray tracing in the game with Nvidia GPUs

CES 2024 is now in full swing – one day before the actual start of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, graphics card manufacturer Nvidia has kicked off the trade fair with some innovations.

The focus is of course on the new RTX 4000 Super GPUs, which were announced for CES 2024. However, there was also other news to report during the special event: For Diablo 4, for example, there will soon be a free update that unlocks ray tracing support.

You can see a first trailer for Diablo 4 with RTX here:

Basically, the ray tracing update for Diablo 4 includes the usual light reflections and effects. In view of the rather dark setting in Sanctuary, however, these are still rather marginal, at least in the first trailer.

In addition to the new ray tracing effects, DLSS 3 (Deep Learning Super Sampling) is also highlighted again in the same clip, which was already available for the release of the game in June 2023.

Nvidia has also already given a first impression of the frame rates that can be achieved with active ray tracing and DLSS 3.

However, it does not specify which RTX 40 GPU or specific settings are used to achieve the values, so the information should be treated with caution.

According to the Nvidia teaser, Diablo 4 achieves an average of just over 50 FPS with only RTX enabled. If DLSS 3 is added, however, it should be at least 144 FPS.

An exact release date for the free ray tracing update for Diablo 4 is still pending; only the month of March is confirmed as an approximate release date.

It is also unclear whether the console version for PS5 and Xbox Series X will also be able to enjoy at least partial ray tracing in Diablo 4 – at this stage, however, it can be assumed that the update is intended exclusively for PC players.

Diablo 4 will receive a ray tracing update in March – finally, or should the developers concentrate on other areas? Will you be actively using the feature or will you leave it as it is? Let us know in the comments below
