The new RLCS 2024 season has finally been confirmed! After much speculation and teasing from Rocket League Esports, the new season is ready to start on January 26th with the first open qualifier.

The announcement comes the day after fans were left more than a little annoyed by a rick rolling teaser posted to the official X account on January 9th.

New RLCS 2024 Format

According to the official blog post, the new RLCS 2024 season will have just 2 Majors as well as the World Championship, currently due to take place in September. The change has apparently been designed to help ensure the long term sustainability of the scene. This comes after the announcement that BLAST will take over the running of the RLCS in 2024.

With a confirmed global prize pool of $4,300,000, it seems teams will have fewer opportunities to win big. However, the prizes themselves are sure to be individually larger.

One aspect of the new format that has raised a few eyebrows is the amount of teams from each region that will be permitted at Majors. The same format will also apply for the World Championship.

North America: Top four teams
Europe: Top four teams
Middle East & North Africa: Top two teams
Oceania: Top two teams
South America: Top two teams
Asia-Pacific: Top team
Sub-Saharan Africa: Top team.

This certainly means the regional fight for RLCS points will be fierce. Both the NA and EU regions have dominated Rocket League for a long time and so will still be prioritized in terms of teams that can attend major events.

Key Dates in the Rocket League 2024 Calendar

The RLCS are still keeping some cards close to their chest but some key dates have already been confirmed.

Major 1 will have both open and closed qualifiers taking place throughout January and February. The first roster lock is just a couple of weeks away on January 22nd! The first Major will take place some time in March, but the exact dates haven’t been confirmed.

After a transfer  window of April 1st – 14th, Major 2 will also have both open and closed qualifiers. These will take place in April and May with the Major itself to be held in June.

Finally, the World Championship itself is in September this year.
