The PUBG Mobile Super League (PMSL) has announced the partnered teams that will be competing in the tournament throughout 2024. The PMSL SEA is a partnered league that features a semi-franchised model. This means that most of the slots are given to partnered teams while a few are left to regional qualifiers.

The PMSL was first launched in 2023 as a trial project for PUBG Mobile Esports’ partnership program in SEA. After a year which Tencent called successful, the PMSL has been expanded to other regions as well. However, the PMSL SEA features the most stacked calendar in 2024 as it will feature three seasons in comparison to the two happening in other regions.

In 2023, Tencent had only 15 partnered teams. This time, though, there are 20 SEA Partnership teams. Four more slots will be open to teams from the PUBG Mobile National Championships (PMNC).

While the format seems similar to franchising, none of the teams had to pay a buy-in amount to be a part of the PMSL. Instead, Tencent has selected them based on their past performance and contribution to the PUBG Mobile esports ecosystem. Additionally, the PMSL will determine the SEA teams in the Global Open (PMGO) and the PMGC.

Who are the PMSL SEA 2024 Partnership Teams?

The 20 partnered teams are as follows:

Indonesia

The PMSL SEA Spring 2024 will kick off in the coming weeks per the roadmap. Tencent hasn’t announced the official schedule yet, though. The company has confirmed that it will be happening as an on-ground event.

While the partnership program reduces opportunities for new players to grind to the top, it ensures more stability for esports organizations. This allows esports organizations to invest more in the scene.

Esports franchising isn’t new. For some games like League of Legends, it has worked well, while others like the Overwatch League failed miserably. Nonetheless, Tencent has continued grassroots-level tournaments like the PUBG Mobile National Championships (PMNC). It remains to be seen how the partnership program shapes out for PUBG Mobile esports.
