The opening year of the Mortal Kombat Pro Kompetition has been an interesting one so far. We’re winding towards a conclusion here, and we’re beginning to see more players secure their places. Most recently, the Pro Kompetiiton North American League has wrapped up its first event with a few players securing their wins. Who took victory here and how did they secure their spots at the top of the rankings?

MK 1 Pro Kompetition North American League East

This week we saw the opening round of a new competition, the MK1 North American League 1. Here we’re seeing quite a few major Mortal Kombat 1 players compete for a decent number of circuit points for the Pro Kompetition. In the east, it was a dramatic run by ninjakilla that took the most attention.

The player started out in the semi-final, but was swept by TheMightUnjust. That left him to face the Losers bracket, where he more than redeemed himself. He took out Bandinoz, Xombat, and Justnasty all with 3-0 wins. This secured his slot in the Grand Final itself.

TheMightyUnjust was back up against Ninjakilla, but in the first section Ninjakilla_212 just edged ahead, winning 3-1. This meant we were looking at a full bracket reset. Rather than falter at the final stage, Ninjakilla_212 instead went even further ahead, winning 3-0. This conclusion locked his win in and secured him the bulk of the point at stake.

SonicFox Wins West Bracket

It wasn’t just the east section with a tournament happening, we also saw the West. This round was a little less dramatic, but could still have gone in a pretty different way. The Winners Final and Grand Final both saw SonicFox up against PK Rewind. In the Winners Final, it was a decisive win for SonicFox at 3-0.

After winning the losers final though, PK Rewind had a second chance. Things got significantly closer in this match up, with Rewind winning 3-2. Just like in the east final, we had a full reset here. In the second round though, SonicFox once again extended his lead winning 3-1 in the MK 1 Pro Kompetition North American League 1.

SonicFox is one of the best Mortal Kombat players of all time, and wider one of the best fighting game esports pros. His victory is rarely a surprise, but with each new game presenting a fresh meta its always impressive he’s able to stay at the very height of competition. Ninjakilla was just as impressive and both players will be one to watch in the future of the pro Kompetition.
