The PUBG Mobile Global Open (PMGO) 2024 is a new esports tournament, the first edition of which is set to take place in Brazil with a $500,000 prize pool. With the introduction of the partnered leagues, PMSL, globally, there have been fewer opportunities for grassroots-level players to make it to the big stage.

Recognizing this issue, Tencent has brought the PMGO, a tournament that not only features top teams but provides a chance for players to go pro through an open qualifier. Here’s everything you need to know about the Global Open.

PMGO 2024 Format: How to qualify for the LAN in Brazil?

The PMGO registration will begin shortly, from where teams will participate in the Qualifiers. The top squads from here will advance to the PMGO Qualifier Final, set to happen as a LAN event. The winner from here will make it to the main event.

The other top teams from the PMGO Qualifier Final will advance to the offline PMGO Prelims, where eight more teams will secure their slots at the Main Event.

The schedule for the tournament is as follows:

Qualifier: March 4 to 30
Prelims: April 1 to 3
Main Event: April 5 to 7

How will the partnered teams qualify for the event?

Besides the qualified squads, the PMGO 2024 will feature seven pro teams. So far, three of these have been confirmed from the EMEA, Central and South Asia (CSA), and Americas regions. To determine them, Tencent selected the team from each region with the highest ranking in the PMGC 2023:

S2G Esports: EMEA
IHC Esports: CSA
Alpha7 Esports: Americas

The remaining four teams include the winners of the following regional tournaments:

PMSL SEA Spring 2024
PMPS 2024 Season Zero
PMGO PEL Qualification
PUBG Mobile Japan League (PMJL) Season 3

Overall, the PMGO is a good initiative taking place at the beginning of the PUBG Mobile esports roadmap. It not only provides an opportunity for new players but also ensures that big esports LAN events can take place in different regions, such as Brazil in 2024. Despite being a strong region in PUBG Mobile esports and having a substantial player base, no major PUBG Mobile esports event has taken place in the region yet.
