The Patreon project shows gameplay from its live mode for the first time – and also reveals the release date
The small Canadian studio led by Alex Massé raises over 30,000 dollars a month on Patreon for the development of the life simulation Paralives . The developers’ motto: No paid add-ons to defy the controversial DLC policy of EA and The Sims 4.
For a long time, only the character editor and build mode were on show. Now Paralives finally shows game scenes from the live mode!
But before we get to the gameplay, here’s the much-anticipated info first: The year 2025 is mentioned as the release date The life simulation will then start in Early Access with as yet incomplete content. So if the gameplay is making your mouth water now, you’ll have to be patient for a while yet
By the way: The Sims competitor from Paradox Life by You will launch in Early Access on June 4, 2024. And the “Korean Sims” inZoi is also due to be released this year.
What the gameplay trailer reveals
You’ll want to see the gameplay for yourself first:
We summarize the most exciting aspects of the gameplay reveal for you:
Personalities of your Paras
You can allocate up to three points in four categories (Physique, Mind, Creativity and Charisma) to shape the personality of your characters. In addition, you can choose one trait each for the vibe, social skills and talents of your paras. For example, a character can be serious and good at making new friends, but have no other talents.
You will also be able to adjust your sleeping and cleaning habits, but there was no sign of this in the trailer. The personality can also be upgraded over the course of the game as you learn more skills and gain additional traits
(The personality of the paras is made up of abilities, skills, moods and character traits.)
Jobs and professions
To pay your bills, you need money. And for that you need a job. In the trailer, the para becomes aware of a job advertisement and can start as a barista (rank 1) in a café. To be able to apply for higher positions, you need a higher rank and so-called application points.
After a successful first day at work, the character Anisa can spend one upgrade point on her job. Here, for example, she can increase her rank, learn an additional skill such as customer service or unlock the ability to listen to music while working, which in turn increases her music knowledge.
(Upgrade points improve the profession rank or give Paras new skills.)
Promoting talent
As in the Sims games, the Paras’ skills increase when they perform an action. Anisa, for example, plays the guitar in the trailer and increases her “Guitar” and “Music” skills. The music skill then helps her to learn other musical instruments more quickly later on, for example.
Group activities
If you want to perform certain actions together with other paras, you can select them all at the same time and start a conversation, for example. The so-called “Together” bar will also fill up. When it is full, you can select an additional action that matches your personality or is determined by the context of your surroundings
For example, you can give a compliment or apologize for the mess in the house. Your actions also determine which direction the relationship between the Paras should take.
(Whether certain actions succeed depends on the relationship you have with a Para. Here we see a happy ending!)
How do you like the gameplay shown so far? Are you looking forward to Paralives and can’t wait for 2025? Or are you staying loyal to the Sims series because no one can replace the life simulation king for you? Or are you perhaps much more interested in the other projects Life by You or inZoi?
