As the Group Stage of the biggest tournament in Rainbow Six esports wraps up, teams are sharpening their sledgehammers for the all-important Playoff round. It has been a phenomenal tournament thus far, with the world’s best Rainbow Six Siege teams doing battle to secure a place in the final round of the $3 million Six Invitational in São Paulo. I recently caught up with Ambi, who at just eighteen years of age is flying the Soniqs banner on the most important stage of them all just weeks after joining the squad.
Ambi has been instrumental in Soniqs securing a fantastic opening record in this year’s Six Invitational. During the Group Stage, the team refused to drop a map, matching statistics with G2 Esports, the reigning SI champion. In a clean sweep, Soniqs effortlessly walked through SCARZ, LOS, Team Falcons, and FURY, topping the Group and securing a solid seed for the Playoffs. I was interested to see how Ambi was feeling ahead of the impending showdown.
Nothing but Positivity
Soniqs appeared at the Six Invitational in 2023 and 2022 but failed to secure a high finish at both events. This year, the squad has sharpened up immeasurably and is preparing to make a solid splash in the Playoffs following a pristine Group Stage walkthrough. There’s a clean mix of veteran talent and superstar rookie energy on the team, too. Ambi might be a very recent addition to the squad and playing on the biggest stage he’s ever seen, but he’s flanked by the likes of Geometrics, who in 2022 won the Six Invitational with TSM.
After catching up with Ambi, I learned how he and the team are bursting at the seams with positivity about the stage ahead:
‘We’re feeling very confident about any team we play, we’re just excited to start playing again after our break. I’m holding up perfectly fine, I’ve got no nerves going in and I’m just excited to play.’
I probed into the future of Six Siege with Ambi, given that he has a unique perspective as a newcomer to the top flight of the game’s esports ecosystem:
‘I’m very excited for the future – it still has many years left. The game is too unique to fall off.’
There’s still a tough road ahead for Soniqs that includes a lengthy Playoff stage, but the squad is looking eager to dominate further as it works its way along the bracket. At present, the likes of Dplus, Geekay, and M80 have all been eliminated from the Six Invitational. It’ll come down to the final matches this evening to decide what happens with Group D, but either SCARZ or Team Falcons will be going home tonight.
