Every day the item shop brings in new cosmetics. Often, they cycle in and out pretty quickly. It’s rare for a brand-new item to get removed after just a few hours though, which is exactly what happened this week. The Fortnite Jubi Slide emote was removed during its first day in the item shop. What happened and why has this emote been taken away so quickly?
This week, a new Fortnite emote got added to the store! It was the Fortnite Jubi Slide emote. It’s a dance emote featuring a song that has your character doing a popular dance. So far, pretty standard for Fortnite. Epic does these kinds of emotes all the time, taking a popular dance from TikTok or social media and putting it into Fortnite. What’s different here?
Fortnite Jubi Slide Emote Removed Same Day
So far, it looks like it’s because this is an emote so similar to what they’ve done before. Literally, it’s the same dance. Epic has already made an emote of this dance but with a different backing song.
When it first got added to the files there was quite a bit of confusion from players. It looked strangely similar to something players already have in their lockers. The dance was close to the exact same. There were a few differences, and it seems the similarity originates from outside of Epic’s emotes. The game made an emote from a different dance, with this current trending dance was based on that earlier one. Their commitment to adapting viral dances seems to have led to essentially duplicating an earlier emote.
Some think this is because of a bug from Lego Fortnite. However, the wording is very vague. It doesn’t make it clear if the emote is coming back or what Epic is exactly planning to do about it. We might see it come back to the Fortnite item shop with more to differentiate it from the other emote. It’s also possible we just see a refund for players who did purchase it!
