After the first suspected DDOS attack during the series between Dplus KIA and DRX, the LCK has been disrupted once again.
T1 vs FOX series brought to a halt following LCK DDoS attack
On Monday, February 28, the LCK encountered technical difficulties in the series between T1 and FearX, resulting in the game being postponed after Game 1.
This is the second time the Korean league has faced this kind of issue in the last two weeks, following the 6-hour marathon that took place last Sunday.
Despite the LCK’s attempts to fix the problems, the issue occurred once again in Game 1 of the series, and it was later confirmed to be yet another DDoS attack
A DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack is a malicious attempt to disrupt normal web traffic and overwhelm a targeted server or network by adding a massive amount of internet traffic, ultimately causing service outages and slowdowns.
The result is usually a ping spike and in games like League of Legends, it can heavily impact the players’ performances. This has been an ongoing issue in the Korean region, as pros and streamers have often been impacted by these attacks in the past few months. And now, it’s also attacking the esports scene.
In a public announcement by the organizers, they explained that the measures taken to prevent similar issues did not work because the pattern and methods of the attacks continuously changed.
After negotiations with the team, LCK has decided to run game one until completion even if the pauses continue, with T1 taking the first game. The rest of the series, however, will be rescheduled to another date. The pre-recorded games will be broadcast on February 29, as the teams will be playing from their facilities.
It’s the second series that gets postponed, following the series between KDF and BRO, which was supposed to happen after the DK vs DRX series on Sunday.
