Director Christopher Nolan is thrilled with Dune 2 and has high praise for his colleague Denis Villeneuve

Dune: Part Two is currently receiving numerous positive reviews. The director of the sci-fi film is particularly pleased with one assessment of the film. It comes from his colleague Christopher Nolan, with the Oppenheimer director comparing Dune 2 to nothing less than Star Wars Episode 5.

“Dune 2 is like The Empire Strikes Back “

At an IMAX screening of Nolan’s film Tenet, the audience was able to see Dune: Part Two. Afterwards, there was a conversation between Nolan and Villeneuve, an excerpt of which you can see at Raiders of the Lost Podcast:

Turning to Villeneuve, Nolan explains:

I don’t think it’s too much to say that Dune: Part One was Star Wars, but for me this [Dune Part Two] is more like The Empire Strikes Back, my favorite movie in the Star Wars franchise. I just think it’s an incredibly exciting extension of all the things you introduced in the first one.

“That’s a great compliment,” replies Villeneuve, recalling his childhood and his visits to the movies, especially Episode 5. In a later interview with GamesRadar+ he comments again on Nolan’s words:

That’s a comparison I would never have dared to make myself. I think that’s a wonderful compliment, because “The Empire Strikes Back” is by far my favorite Star Wars movie. So it’s an incredible compliment coming from Chris [Nolan].

Dune: Part Two opens in cinemas on February 29th

The film is currently scoring big with the critics, with 97 percent of all reviews on Rotten Tomatoes being positive Dune 2 has already been compared to other big screen epics such as The Lord of the Rings
