Ahead of becoming the CEO of FaZe Clan following the recent GameSquare acquisition, FaZe Banks, whose real name is Richard Bengston, has taken over the brand’s social media profiles. He recently posted a simple message on Twitter that read, ‘I got the passwords back.’ This was before he promptly unfollowed everyone on the social media platform and ‘blacked out’ the page’s profile picture and banner, which indicates a rebrand is on the way.

Fans of the franchise, which has dominated the gaming market for more than a decade, are excited about this all-new appointment. For years, the community was crying out for a leadership change at FaZe Clan, as while the organisation was successful enough in the esports space, many felt that FaZe had ‘lost its way’. There was a constant call to put back in place the ‘OG’ leaders of the brand – and now that GameSquare has acquired FaZe Clan, that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

Approved and Going Ahead

FaZe Banks will be the CEO of FaZe Clan once the acquisition is closed

In recent days, GameSquare’s shareholders moved to approve the FaZe Clan acquisition in full. There are certain boxes to tick before the deal can close, but it’s teetering on that precipice and very few things are holding it back. Following that action, GameSquare revealed that it had sold another esports organisation, Complexity, back to its founder, Jason Lake. It was back in 1997 that Lake set up Complexity, and fans are welcoming this change as well.

It was said that this change was made to understandably avoid a conflict of interest, given that FaZe Clan and Complexity move in the same circles.

Last year, GameSquare announced that it would be looking to acquire FaZe Clan for just $17 million, a record-low value for the ‘lifestyle brand’ that was once valued at $1 billion. There are high expectations that now the former CEO, Lee Trink, is out of the picture and the OG creators of the brand are back in charge, things will change for the better at FaZe Clan. Fans have already started calling for the return of trickshot montages, which is where FaZe Clan got started more than fifteen years ago.

It’s a developing situation to watch unfold, that’s for sure. There are no indications of where FaZe Banks will take the brand going forward, and even the imagery on the social media platforms is up in the air and in the dark. Rest assured that we’ll have all the latest for you as it develops.
