With the first CS2 Major set to kick off in a few days’ time, all eyes are on Copenhagen as it prepares to host arguably the biggest Counter-Strike tournament of the year. For many players, this will be their first time tuning in to see what all the fuss is about.
To help introduce players to the scene, PGL is hosting a Newbie Stream for the entirety of the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, making things easier to understand for those watching CS2 for the first time.
What is the Newbie Stream?
Since the idea of a Newbie Stream is such a novel idea, it’s unclear exactly what it entails. Hosted by Jack “Jacky” Peters and Vince Hill, it promises “a laid-back viewing experience,” with the duo guiding players through the matches.
Presumably, the stream will take away much of the hardcore analysis that takes place between matches. This analysis is obviously great for viewers who know their CS, but it isn’t exactly light-hearted fun. If done right, the Newbie Stream can be a way to make CS2 esports more fun for the average viewer, which in turn should hopefully see the viewer count rise.
Lowering the barrier to entry to esports
One of the big issues with esports can be the barrier to entry. Some games have years of history behind them, and if you’re jumping in at the deep end, it can be daunting! That’s why we love the idea of a Newbie Stream from PGL. With the new game in CS2, the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 is something of a fresh slate. What better time to introduce new people to CS2 esports than now?
We don’t know if the Newbie Stream is something that will stick around forever. Still, we’re glad it’s happening, at least for this Major.
