Bedman was first revealed a few weeks ago, but we’ve just gotten a more thorough look at how the character is going to work. A returning character to the series, Bedman looks like an interesting addition to the roster of Guilty Gear characters.
Following the initial reveal, Arc System Works has unveiled a full starter guide for the new character. We’ve now gotten to know their moves and some other little quirks of how they play. This is what you need o know to get started with Bedman in Guilty Gear Strive once they hit the game.
Bedman Guilty Gear Moves and Mechanics
Bedman’s first interesting new bit of kit is Error 6E. This is a new mechanic where a special attack leads directly into a follow-up attack after a brief period of time. There’s obvious utility in chaining moves here, but also for mixing up your timing.
The follow-up move for Error 6E is different depending on the special. There are some that have the head explode like a bomb which looks like they’re building on past movesets for Bedman. This state can be exited if you get hit or if someone blocks up the attack, so it’s not like this is a free combo mechanic.
Call 4BA is another cooler move, it is a projectile attack that will home in on an enemy position, before firing a follow-up electrical projectile. The spinning attack in the moveset has been renamed to Call 4B3. It’s now possible to use it in the air as a combo ender, which forces a slam attack into the ground along with an explosion.
Call 0x$0.20 is another move that plays into the Error mechanic. This one lets you use the follow-up attacks on command, there’s also another input to add an extra delay to the attack. This is adding a lot of space for you to mix up timing even with the automated follow-up.
The first overdrive shown off for the character is Call 13C which gives a buff to your attacks and adds more damage to Error attacks. The other is Call4CC which is a large shockwave.
Bedman’s kit looks like an improvement here over past games. It’ll be interesting to see how matchups develop, including against close-up characters like Baiken in Guilty Gear.
Bedman Release Date
Those are the Bedman DLC moves that have been revealed so far. The character is going to be available for a hands-on pretty soon though, with a large patch adding them on April 6. While that’s pretty close there are still some esports events on the horizon first, including the DH San Diego Guilty Gear event just before.
Bedman DLC’s First Announcement
Guilty Gear Strive saw its main circuit reach a conclusion back in March at the ARC World Tour Grand Finals. The weekend’s action was exciting from an esports perspective but it also saw a big new announcement for Guilty Gear. We’ve gotten the reveal of our next new addition to the Guilty Gear roster. Bedman DLC will be hitting Guilty Gear Strive very soon.
Recent Guilty Gear patch notes have been a bit thinner on the ground, only really including new features and fixes for the game. It’s still in the thick of development though which quite a bit more DLC still to come. Earlier characters in this batch included the widely popular Bridget. Will Bedman DLC be able to capture the attention of players in the same way?
Bedman Coming to Guilty Gear
Over the same weekend as the competitive finale, we got our confirmation of the next DLC fighter. It’s going to be Bedman! Bedman, or Bedman? as it’s stylized, is the next fighter and he has a unique mechanic that’ll set them apart from the others in the game. Bedman is a person controlling a giant mechanical bed.
In actual function in the game, it looks like Bedman is both a controller character and the giant puppet. You’re essentially controlling both since one wields the other. It’s a fun addition to the cast that will introduce different mechanics with its weirder moveset that’s been shown off. It’s a bit more unconventional than characters like Faust Guilty Gear, but other fighters have plenty of characters which are technically more than one person too.
Bedman isn’t a brand-new character to the Guilty Gear series, but they are a fresh addition to Strive. While not exactly the most iconic, it’s great to see past rosters’ weirder characters getting new life in Strive. Bedman wasn’t the highest tier in the past but in Strive they could get more play.
Bedman DLC Release Date
The Bedman DLC is due to release on April 6. This won’t just be a new character though. The update will also include a brand-new map, Fairy’s Forest Factory. This will give fans new content to play even if they don’t fancy switching from their mains just yet. As we every new character it’ll also be interesting to see how they handle in esports-level games.
The official site for Guilty Gear cites the new character as difficult to play and his moves shown off in the trailer do seem to back that up in terms of complexity. We’re sure once the character actually hits though players will quickly find Bedman combos and key strategies to make them compete with the rest of the roster.
