Overwatch has just announced its ditching its originally planned PVE. That’s despite it being the one feature that was supposed to make the difference between OW and OW 2. So fans haven’t taken it well. Beyond just being upset about the change in plan, a lot of fans think Overwatch 2 PVE might be false advertising.

Was Overwatch 2 PVE False Advertising?

Overwatch PVE has been dropped this week. The full game mode that was promised isn’t coming. Players thought this was going to be the centerpoint of Overwatch 2. Many people got back involved with the game at the OW 2 release because of their anticipation over PVE. This has led some to say that Overwatch 2 PVE is a case of false advertising.

The argument essentially goes that Activision Blizzard intentionally mislead players. Long after development in Overwatch 2 had switched away from PVE to focusing on making the game free to play with content each season. They suggest that by not being honest with consumers, they’ve essentially lied to them to gain more money through the sale of Battle Passes and skins.

Most can probably see where the most inflamed players are coming from. Commitments were made. Although, while plans change, those other promises and might have influenced decision-making in buying those overpriced OW 2 skins.

Is It False Advertising?

Overwatch PVE 2 False Advertising is a bit more of a serious allegation. Although, it’s not the first time a group of gamers has thrown the word out after a controversy. In some cases, like No Man’s Sky and Fallout 76, it even led to actual action. However, in Overwatch’s case, it is a bit harder to determine.

OW 2 was free. Nobody was forced to buy skins or Battle Passes. It might be a bit more difficult to make Blizzard act on complaints about false advertising. Although, those who bought the larger launch bundles that included PVE in its description might have more of a leg to stand on with the complaints. Although, as we’ve seen with the StarWatch event Overwatch is still including some different content, even if it’s an incredible stretch to actually call that meaningful PVE content.

Overwatch 2 PVE false advertising is a controversial topic, but we might see some fans take this all the way and attempt to form a class-action lawsuit. It’s clear that the blowback from this is going to be pretty damaging to Activision Blizzard, and Overwatch 2’s future.
