An ex-developer talks on Twitter about his biggest failure and why he”s still proud of Battlefield 2042
Since November 2021, some grass has grown over the wreckage of the Battlefield 2042 release. Not least because the developers have tackled and made plenty of changes in the following months – after many updates, the shooter is just about to enter its fifth season.
With the game now out of the woods, a former developer takes to Twitter to talk about what he thinks went wrong and why he”s still glad he worked on Battlefield 2042.
“Didn”t stand a chance “
Joakim Bodin shares his opinion as part of a current Twitter campaign in which game developers present their worst-rated games that they nevertheless enjoyed developing. For Bodin, that”s Battlefield 2042 with a Metascore of 68.
This game had many iterations, and the deadline never changed much, so never stood much chance of being great at launch.
I”m proud though to have pushed hard to have this game have full cross play, progression and (mostly) commerce. It”s online systems will serve future titles well https://t.co/l6tbqFhzgz pic.twitter.com/kCUx77aGqF

This game has gone through many changes and the deadline never changed much, so it never had a chance to be great at launch.
Despite this, he said he was happy with his work on the shooter. Integrated online features such as cross-play, cross-progression and trading would help upcoming titles in the series, Bodin says.
In the comments below his tweet, it appears that many disappointed fans have since changed their minds about Battlefield 2042. For example, the return of classes has pleased many, as have the numerous tech and content updates.
The Twitter campaign was started after the release of the miserably rated The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. With this, devs want to draw attention to the fact that even in bad games there is often a lot of heart and work.
What do you say to Brodin”s assessment? Would you have accepted a postponement of Battlefield 2042 if there had been fewer stumbles at launch? Drop us a line in the comments below
