In Counter-Strike 2 we apparently don”t have to go into battle alone. A data miner has discovered hints of animal reinforcements in the game code

Counter-Strike 2 apparently doesn”t just rely on weapon skins and stickers when it comes to cosmetic items. A dataminer dug through the game code and made some interesting discoveries. So not only could there be taunt animations and customisable game characters, but also … pets?

Findings from the CS2 game code

This was discovered by a dataminer: Valve expert (Gabe Follower) has shared a video on YouTube in which he shares his discoveries in the files of Counter-Strike 2 with the public. Here he was able to uncover a few interesting discoveries, such as the following:

Mocking animations in first-, but also third-person

Counter-Strike 2 as a mobile app for Android and iOS

Via Cosmetics customisable game characters

Pets

New VACNet Anti-Cheat Module

New co-op game mode Hunt

Will CS2 become animalistic?

What could this mean? Most noticeable in the list, of course, are the pets hiding in CS2”s code. The assumption is that the pets are cosmetic content that players can take into battle with them, or at least showcase in a victory screen.

In his video, Gabe cites Follower Dota 2 as a possible reference – in the multiplayer game, for example, little animals can also waddle after one”s own character, but make no playful difference. In the comments under Gabe Follower”s video, Conjim speculates that maybe they are just skins for animals like chickens that like to scurry around on CS maps.

According to Gabe Follower, only a chicken can be identified as a placeholder pet in the game files. However, the fact that pets are listed in the inventory alongside spray motifs, flairs or music kits definitely suggests that there could be multiple and interchangeable animals. Elliot could quite imagine rabbits or geckos alongside chickens, for example.

Don”t get too excited: This does not automatically set pets or any of the tracked down items to actually end up in Counter-Strike 2. The files could be leftovers from a long development process that might not even be completed for the final release.

But the fact that Valve is playing around with such ideas is always exciting. In the community, Gabe Follower”s discussions are already causing some discussion. The general consensus is that as long as these elements do not dilute or even corrupt the actual game experience, many fans are open to new things.

What do you think of Gabe Follower”s discoveries in Counter-Strike 2”s game code? Are there any elements in it that you find particularly exciting or even inappropriate? What are your hopes and expectations for the final release? Let us know in the comments!
