For old RPG veterans, the question naturally arises at the end of a playthrough whether there is a New Game Plus mode. Final Fantasy XVI is no exception.
Final Fantasy XVI is about to be released and is already eagerly awaited by fans. Before it officially kicks off on 22 June, some players have also been wondering if there will be a New Game Plus mode.
Reward and incentive to play through again
In many RPGs there is a new mode – commonly known as New Game Plus – as a reward for the first playthrough. This usually gives you the opportunity to take some of the game’s progress into a new playthrough or unlock bonuses for round two. Sometimes it also opens up another difficulty level as a new challenge for players.
There will also be a New Game Plus mode in Final Fantasy XVI The developers have appropriately named it “Final Fantasy Mode”.
New enemies, more abilities and new challenges
The Final Fantasy mode unlocks after you complete the game for the first time and lets you take your progress into the second playthrough. Especially when it comes to Esper skills, you can then combine and unlock them as you wish, regardless of story progress.
To ensure that you don’t simply run over the earlier dungeons and enemies with these stronger skillsets, Square Enix has given them a proper strength upgrade. The enemies you encounter not only have higher levels and better stats, but some of them have also been completely replaced to make the second playthrough not only different, but actually more difficult.
A short teaser that IGN showed us together with the developers gives us an impression of what this looks like in the game:
So if anyone is looking for new challenges after their first playthrough, Final Fantasy XVI’s New Game Plus is the place to be. We’re already looking forward to the latest instalment in the series and await 22 June with much anticipation.
