What is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla About?

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla tells the tall tale of Eivor Varinsdottir – with the female variant of the protagonist being more or less canon. In Valhalla, Eivor navigates to England with a crew of Viking warriors, bent on liberating and consuming the developing country region by region while trying to understand her connection to the Norse Gods. It introduces the Hidden Ones – the original assassin clique – and it explores the modern age through the eyes of Layla Hassan, who is investigating bizarre goings-on with Earth’s magnetic field.

It’s a remarkable story that takes players from the snowy mountains and fjords of Norway to the forests and cities of 9th Century England. It’s as broad as an Assassin’s Creed game can be, and players will one moment be building up a Viking settlement, and the next be sacking a cathedral and ridding it of soldiers in seek of riches.

So, Is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Good?

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a fantastic game, and it’s one that’s well worth the investment of time and money. It’s not so expensive these days, and it can be found loitering on Ubisoft +, if you’re a PC gamer – which makes it infinitely easier to acquire. With Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you’ll be securing around seventy hours of excitement, jam-packed with side quests, minigames, an immersive story, and a world that’s ripe for exploration.

There’s the ongoing concern from many die-hard members of the community stressing that this ‘isn’t an Assassin’s Creed game’ – but it is. It’s a coming-of-age story and a deep dive into history just like any other, plus it has the connection with the Assassin Brotherhood in the form of Basim and his Hidden Ones. Through them, Eivor learns what it means to be an assassin, wielding the hidden blade that has been a staple for the series since 2007.

It follows the RPG-based operating model that was put in place by Ubisoft in Assasssin’s Creed Origins, but it means nothing in the long run. It means that there’s a massive skill tree to explore, combat is more challenging, and there are more ‘paths’ to follow – and that’s it.

It’s an Assassin’s Creed game, and yes – it’s a very good one.
