As one of the most highly anticipated first-person shooters in recent years, XDefiant is on the horizon and gamers are excited. It has been playtested by some of the best Call of Duty players in the world, and they’re incredibly impressed by it. It has every opportunity to steal the shooter limelight from Call of Duty, and Ubisoft – the game’s developer – has ticked all the right boxes during the production of the game. In this guide, we’ll confirm the XDefiant release date and the platforms it’s going to release on.
This free-to-play FPS has already wowed hundreds of thousands of gamers. It has dominated social and streaming charts every time it has seen a beta phase go live, and as a game, it boasts a fast pacing, scores of customisation, and relatively balanced gameplay.
What’s XDefiant’s release date, and when platforms can you expect it to launch on?
What Makes XDefiant Different?
It’s being penned as the Call of Duty ‘killer’ – even if Ubisoft is against that name. It’s a typical six vs. six first-person multiplayer shooter, so how does it differ from Call of Duty?
Firstly, it’s important to stress the uniqueness of XDefiant as a shooter. It’s firmly rooted in the ‘multiverse’ that makes up Ubisoft’s history, with the game’s characters being pulled from some of Ubisoft’s most recognisable franchises. There are recognisable elements from Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, The Division, and WatchDogs. As there are so many Ubisoft franchises, it means that there are so many ‘factions’ that can be created in-game based on this universe.
As a shooter, XDefiant boasts a fast pacing that’s reminiscent of the ‘jetpack era’ of Call of Duty. It offers itself to a rapid rate of play that Call of Duty fans have been missing since Modern Warfare II was released in October 2022 – and even before that, in fact.
It has fantastic potential as a game, and from what has already been revealed, we know that there’s so much content in the pipeline.
What is the XDefiant Release Date?
It was revealed in June 2023 that XDefiant will be released by the end of the summer, but no solid date was given. Following an open beta stage, players were made more excited than ever before, with the true potential of XDefiant being revealed in full. There was a roadmap that was published, showing all the content that’s planned to be delivered by Ubisoft during the game’s first year online.
There are now expectations that XDefiant will be released in late July or early August, based on estimates and projections.
When it launches, XDefiant will be coming out on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Amazon’s Luna service. It’s going to be a crossplay game with strong anti-cheat and fair play mechanics, and it’s being built with the community and competitive nature in mind. For every new update, the community at large has been considered, and their opinions are being well and truly taken on board by Ubisoft.
