The esports world witnesses the end of an era as Mariano “SquishyMuffinz” Arruda, a name synonymous with NRG and Rocket League, concluded his remarkable stint with the team. After an impressive 1,120 days, the legendary player is parting ways with NRG, marking a significant moment in esports history.

Squishy gave the following statement on Twitter:

Officially left NRG today. Excited for the future, this was a tough decision for me but I know this is the right one going forward. I’m looking to build something that I believe in and that I know with effort could get back to that top of NA and even top of the world spots that I know I’m capable of. More announcements to come in the future, I’m not even close to done yet. Proud of the 2 years on top with NRG and winning that season together was what we set out to do, I love both those guys and wish them nothing but the best. Thank you to NRG for being incredible throughout that time, anyone under your banner is very lucky. Lastly thank you to all the fans for your continued support through the ups and downs, those who have stuck with me even in the down times throughout my whole career you help me keep going. I appreciate you all more than you know, much love to you all as always. Onto the future.

The Canadian Rocket League player has been active since 2016. His successful career earned him winnings approximating $495,710. The journey began with the team Chronix in 2016, followed by stints with Vendetta, Iris, The Muffin Men, and Cloud9 before joining NRG in 2020.

His career is adorned with numerous achievements. As part of the RLCS Season X North American Championship winning team he also clinched the RLCS Season X Spring NA Major and Winter NA Major. His performance in the RLCS Season 7 Finals and DreamHack Pro Circuit Dallas 2019 further cemented his position as a top player in the esports scene.

Interestingly, SquishyMuffinz started his Rocket League career when he realized he could not follow a professional soccer career due to his asthma. Rocket League gave him a second chance at his dream, and he quickly rose to prominence, becoming one of the most mechanically skilled and consistent players in the game.

Despite his departure from NRG, SquishyMuffinz’s doesn’t seem to be done with Rocket League just yet. His statement hinted a new project and announcements coming soon and a drive to put North America at the top of the RLCS circuit.
