As a typical first-person shooter, XDefiant features several classes that players can use to pick up certain abilities or attributes. However, owing to the unique nature of XDefiant and its connection to the Ubisoft ‘universe’, all XDefiant classes are based on the factions present in the game. If you’re not already aware, these factions are made up of iconic characters from other Ubisoft franchises, which is where that unique connection comes from.

Each of the five (so far) XDefiant classes has a different vibe, and there are different playstyles to suit every player. It doesn’t matter if you’re more of a stealthy player or a healer, there’s always going to be a class for you in XDefiant. What’s more, it’s expected that these classes will be expanded over time, as Ubisoft has plenty of franchises it can pull inspiration from.

How Does XDefiant Work?

It’s as typical a shooter as you could imagine, with XDefiant boasting a traditional Team A vs. Team B format spread out across several game modes. It’s a ballistic-weapon-based game fused with some gadgets and gear that make multiple approaches to an objective possible, and it boasts fast pacing that has already left a positive impression on fans. There are five XDefiant classes, each of which promotes a different style of play, and more importantly, the essence of teamwork.

XDefiant has been developed with a competitive platform in mind, but it has also been crafted to capture the hearts and minds of the community. With each new update, suggestions from the community – such as additions or changes – are being incorporated into the game. It has already been suggested that XDefiant could be a ‘Call of Duty killer’, but that’s something that’s yet to be seen, as the game doesn’t release until later in 2023.

All XDefiant Classes and What They Mean

Here’s our breakdown of all XDefiant classes, including a brief overview of what each class can be used for.

Libertad (Far Cry 6)

Libertad is the Healer class and faction in XDefiant, and they have the ability to turn the tide of battle through their supreme medical abilities:

Médico Suprema (health and healing boost)
Espíritu de Libertad (slowly heals player and nearby allies)
El Remedio (heal allies nearby to the deployed item)
BioVida Boost (boost health and regen for player and nearby allies)

Phantom (Ghost Recon)

In XDefiant, the Phantom faction is the class to pick for those that appreciate battlefield domination and the utmost control of the map:

Aegis (deployable plasma shield with a close-range scattergun)
Hardened (increase health for player)
Mag Barrier (actively blocks incoming fire)
Blitz Shield (tactical shield that blocks enemy fire)

Echelon (Splinter Cell)

Splinter Cell’s faction in the game provides the ‘Spy’ class – the go-to XDefiant class for those that appreciate a stealthier approach to the game:

Sonar Goggles (uncover enemy positions on the map)
Low Profile (class prevents players from appearing on minimaps)
Intel Suit (reveals the location of nearby enemies)
Digital Ghillie Suit (temporarily renders the player almost invisible – but it has drawbacks)

Cleaner (The Division)

In The Division, Cleaners are the bad guys – but they’re a dominant and violent force in XDefiant, making them a great choice for destructive players:

The Purifier (pick up a flamethrower)
Incendiary (equip special rounds that have burn damage)
Incinerator Drone (launch a drone that fires napalm)
Firebomb (launch a molotov to damage an area)

DedSec (WatchDogs)

If you’ve played WatchDogs, you’ll know that DedSec are elite hackers – and that’s what this particular XDefiant class is built around:

Lockout (fully disrupt enemies by taking out their HUD, minimap, and abilities)
Fabricator (double-up on devices with the Fabricator)
Spiderbot (this small bot will track and stun the closest enemy)
Hijack (hack into your opponents’ abilities and turn the tide)

What Are The New XDefiant Classes?

Again, given that Ubisoft has access to so many franchises, there really is such an extensive range of crossovers that could take place. For instance, we can see these XDefiant classes surfacing at some point in the future:

Assassin’s Creed (agile, melee-focused operators)
Rainbow Six Siege (heavy-set operators focused on devastating attacks and offensive abilities)
Call of Juarez (gunslinging soldiers wielding weapons from days gone by)
Just Dance (fast-moving operators that use unarmed combat, fusing elements like capoeira with XDefiant’s combat engine)

There are endless possibilities, and that’s before we start revisiting franchises and double-dipping into the factions available. For instance, Assassin’s Creed with the Templars, Far Cry with its Golden Path fighters or the Santa Blanca Cartel from Ghost Recon.
