Mortal Kombat 11 EVO 2023

This year’s EVO has had record numbers of participants signing up, in large part due to the hype over Street Fighter 6 at EVO. Older games like Mortal Kombat 11 still have plenty of space to grow though. The tournament is on the smaller side this time with just under 500 players signed up. There’s still a huge $29,500 prize pool at stake here though. It might have fewer registered players than a few tournaments here, but there’s plenty to get excited about.

The event will begin with wider pools before we move into the bracket. It’s being played in a double-elimination format, with the top 6 being the main event. For some reason, Sony has chosen to trim the bracket from 8 to 6 this year. This is how it’ll work for every game though, it’s not just Mortal Kombat 11.

Top Players to Watch at Mortal Kombat 11 EVO 2023

Who exactly will see in that final bracket though? Who are the contenders to win the final EVO for Mortal Kombat 11? These are some of the highlights.

Scorpionprocs

Scorpionprocs returns this year as the reigning champion for Mortal Kombat 11 at EVO. In 2022, he took 1st place so has some big expectations for this year. Can he make it a back-to-back title? It’s not just EVO where he’s had strong results either Coming into EVO 2023, he’s won 1st place at Combo Breaker too, and definitely looks like the player to beat this year.

Rewind

Just like Scorpionprocs, Rewind is returning after a very strong run in 2022, which just saw him lose out in 2nd. This year could be his time though. He hasn’t had too many big results since EVO, but he could still claim the title for one of the last MK 11 EVO events.

SonicFox

SonicFox is probably the most well-known fighting game player and he’s stepping into Mortal Kombat 11 again this year. He’s also competing in other tournaments like Marvel V Capcom EVO 2023 and SF 6, but it’s possible he’s looking to grab even more titles here. He previously won EVO for MK 11 back in 2019 but only managed 5-6th in 2022. Is 2023 the year he reclaims his top spot?

Waz

Source: Dark Sided

Waz is an Australian player who’s worth keeping an eye on at EVO 2023. He only placed 17-24th last year, but has gained some ground since. Most recently he won Battle Arena Melbourne 13, so is coming into the tournament with a bit more momentum behind him.

Those are some of the top players to watch and how everything will work for Mortal Kombat 11 at EVO 2023. This is a slightly smaller tournament than some like Guilty Gear Strive in raw terms of sign-ups. However, as one of the last few major events for the game, before we see Mortal Kombat 1, it’s sure to be a fitting conclusion for the game.
