Dark and Darker has been banned from Steam for allegedly stealing ideas. But that’s not stopping the developers from releasing the game.
The developers of Dark and Darker could only rejoice for a short time: a few days after the demo of their medieval extraction game went through the roof on Steam they were confronted with serious accusations from the game publisher Nexon. Due to the alleged theft of assets and ideas, Dark and Darker was banned from Steam. But now it will be released anyway.
Routing the way to release
After Dark and Darker disappeared from Steam, the developers still didn’t want to give up, and got creative: In order to be able to carry out a planned playtest as promised, they released the game version as a torrent -a type of file known primarily for distributing illegal movie copies.
The release of Dark and Darker in Early Access was originally planned for as early as the first half of 2023 However, given the major issues facing the developers, it is hardly surprising that this plan could not be met. However, the title finally launched into Early Access on August 7, and again, they had to look for alternatives
Publish on your own
Since the removal from Steam has not yet been lifted despite negotiations with Valve the game is being sold on developer Ironmace s website and at online store Chafgames. As part of the release announcement, the developers have a few more hints for their players:
No in-game voice chat: The VoIP function, which is actually already integrated into the game, will remain deactivated for the time being, as legal issues regarding this still need to be clarified.
Ingame store: The developers want to build a lucrative business, but remain honest with their fans They want to do away with lootboxes and other unpopular business practices.
Missing features: As an Early Access game, Dark and Darker is still missing some key elements that will be added in the near future. Bugs are also still present, but they are working at full speed to improve the game as soon as possible.
It is difficult to estimate how successful the launch of Dark and Darker has been so far due to the lack of Steam statistics. However, more than 10,000 fansreacted to the release announcement on Discord alone. Many have probably been waiting impatiently for the game.
