Dataminer want to have discovered that Modern Warfare 3 will only be an expensive DLC. Activision vehemently contradicts without providing any evidence.
You should definitely not be surprised that a new Call of Duty will be released again this year. But in recent weeks, there has been a lot of speculation about whether Modern Warfare 3 will really be a true full-price title or just full-price DLC
This has fueled tremendous criticism, which is often voiced anyway, that Call of Duty is more or less the same game every year. Publisher Activision-Blizzard has therefore now clearly positioned itself.
This speaks for a full price DLC
According to the well-informed leak website (InsiderGaming) this year’s series spin-off is supposed to be nothing more than a DLC for Modern Warfare 2. In cooperation with dataminer PlaystationSize, the website claims to have gained a deep look into the code of this year’s Call of Duty.
This reportedly revealed that Modern Warfare 3’s content will be delivered via add-ons for MW2. InsiderGaming assumes that Modern Warfare 2 will become a sort of Call of Duty hub where MW2, MW3 and the battle royale Warzone can be played.
The fact that your progress as well as unlocked weapons, operator skins, etc. will be carried over is also said to be in favor of this full-price DLC theory.
By the way, the first scenes for Modern Warfare 3 tease the return of a legendary adversary:
This is how Activision wants to end the debate
Activision has meanwhile told CharlieIntel (spoken plainly): Modern Warfare 3 will be a fully premium title, costing $70. There is to be no discounted upgrade price and the game is to be more than just an expansion:
As announced in numerous quarterly conference calls by Activision Blizzard, Modern Warfare III is a premium release. Accordingly, the price will be $70.
However, the hints discovered by InsiderGaming that Modern Warfare 3 and MW2 will share the same main menu were not commented on.
Picture this: Modern Warfare 3 will be released in the fall for 70 Euros and will indeed share its main menu with MW2. The new campaign continues the story from the predecessor, in multiplayer many new maps and weapons are waiting – but also many operators and weapons will be taken one-to-one from the second part. Is this a big DLC or a completely new game for you?
