Riot Games unveiled significant updates concerning the upcoming VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) season slated to commence in early 2024.
Here’s a comprehensive breakdown of what to expect.
VALORANT League Changes and Calendar Revisions
The forthcoming season will witness several modifications, including the debut of a new league in China, novel venues for its global events, and revisions to the VALORANT esports calendar.
The ongoing VCT season will wrap up on August 26th, post the culmination of VALORANT Champions 2023. Subsequent to the championship, VALORANT teams will transition into the off-season, with a plethora of tournaments orchestrated by Riot’s associates unfolding worldwide.
Although the exact commencement date for the new VCT season remains undisclosed, the inaugural VCT 2024 event is projected to occur sometime in January.
2024 VALORANT Calendar
The calendar for the 2024 season has been disclosed. The two Masters tournaments are scheduled for March and May 2023, with VALORANT Champions retaining its August slot. VALORANT Game Changers is set for November, while the Challengers leagues will be segmented into three phases: February to April, May to early August, and October to December. Each Challengers segment will culminate in playoffs, with the Ascension tournament following the Champions.
No more Season opening event
Diverging from the 2023 season, where all VCT teams were transported to Brazil for the LOCK//IN tournament signifying the season’s onset, 2024 will not replicate this.
Instead, individual two-week tournaments will be organized for each VCT International League to determine the seeding for VALORANT Masters Madrid, marking the 2024 campaign’s first global event. Notably, this represents VCT’s maiden venture into Spain, with eight slots earmarked for the LAN competition.
VALORANT League Changes & Championship Points
VALORANT Challengers leagues are undergoing a makeover and will span the entire year. Innovations such as the Team affiliate system, loans, and a novel in-game mode titled “Premier” are being introduced. These additions aim to bolster player mobility across International Leagues, Challengers, and Game Changers.
Additionally, new teams like The Guard, Gentle Mates, and Bleed Esports will be integrated into VCT’s Partner Team leagues via the Ascension tournament. These teams will partake in the league for the subsequent two years.
Finally, Riot is integrating a point system for the VCT, termed Championship Points. This system is envisioned to amplify the season’s climax, serving as a barometer of each team’s prowess and the qualification criterion for global events. Further specifics regarding this point system are awaited.
