Despite its huge success and the obvious possibility of a sequel, Belgian development studio Larian has no firm plans for DLCs or expansions for Baldur’s Gate 3 as of yet. However, in regards to the game’s future, Senior Product Manager Tom Butler has offered some thoughts.
Baldur’s Gate 3: Plans for future content in the works
In a conversation with IGN, Butler mentioned that Larian is currently focused on the upcoming release of Baldur’s Gate 3 for the PS5. At the same time, the studio is working on patches to fix various issues on all platforms. There were no direct statements regarding possible DLCs or expansions. Nevertheless, Larian is thinking about the time after the console launch of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Although no concrete statements were made about possible DLCs or expansions, Larian is planning to take new steps after the console launch of Baldur’s Gate 3. Senior Product Manager Tom Butler stressed that the studio will continue to release patches, but will then take a break to consider what to do next. Talks are already underway as there is a desire to offer more content, however the exact details are still open.
Ahead of the possibility of new content is also the release of the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3, which was recently announced for this year. This will also take up some development time before fresh content can be tackled. Given how much time the developers have invested in their biggest milestone to date, it’s likely that any potential DLC will also require in-depth development.
There is, however, a broader consideration that may militate against an expansion or DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3, which we highly praised. Larian had recently stressed that in-game purchases or microtransactions should be avoided. This could also apply to future DLCs, which could offer additional paid content.
