A Fortnite X One Piece crossover is here! Although, it’s not quite what fans expected. Far from living up to the lofty bar set by more recent Fortnite collabs, this One Piece celebration is barely a footnote. There are no skins, no event pass, nothing really to bring One Piece alive in Fortnite. Fans of One Piece long looking forward to Luffy joining Goku and Naruto in the Battle Royale have been left pretty disappointed. Why has this crossover been such a disappointment compared to Fortnite’s normal collabs though?

What’s in the Fortnite X One Piece Crossover?

The new Fortnite collab has been announced as the first to come for Chapter 4 Season 4. Are we getting a big new set of Fortnite skins or in-game new Mythics though? Unlike past events, this one is really quite restrained.

Epic took to social media recently to announce the latest in the Fortnite collabs. The crossover is coming in to celebrate the release of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece, the pirate epic currently past its thousandth Chapter. Despite the pretty dismal history of Netflix live-action anime adaptations like Death Note and Cowboy Bebop, there seems to be a bit of hype for their latest attempt. Epic is holding a new crossover to celebrate the latest release.

The bulk of the crossover is a UnrealFN map. Straw Hats Vs. Pirates, a map themed around the pirate world of One Piece. That is it. Essentially, it’s a creative map taking after an existing property, something we already have quite a lot of. No Fortnite skins. No items. None of the grandeur we’ve come to expect from these collabs.

While these creative maps have been a fun part of other crossovers and nice side content. The lack of anything else in the Fortnite X One Piece collab has been pretty deflating though.

Why’s it so Disappointing?

Fans have been disappointed in the Fortnite collab. At the core, we pretty much expected at least some skins. One Piece has been called out as one of the next anime Fortnite collabs people expected. We’ve got Naruto, Dragon Ball, My Hero Academia, and more recently. One Piece, as one of the most popular shonens, seemed like a perfect fit for the next collab. However, to most a Fortnite anime collab means at least some skins. They don’t have to be on the scale of the Fortnite Goku skin, but something more is expected in Chapter 4.

Beyond skins, lately we’ve been seeing in-game items that use some of the moves from fighting anime like One Piece. Getting none of this for one of the biggest manga franchises ever made is just a disappointment. While this current collab is mainly for the live-action adaptation, it doesn’t look bright for a future collab to follow up on Fortnite X One Piece.

Fans might have been hoping to see Luffy in an anime skin in the future. It wouldn’t have been too surprising. However, with Epic calling this the Fortnite X One Piece collab, a lot are interpritating it as the only chance to get these Fortnite skins. However, the colllab is on the smaller side.

Hopefully, in the future, we can get a full Fortnite X One Piece collab. At the moment, what they’ve done is really quite tiny to say how big this franchise is though.
