Battlegrounds Mobile India Series 2023 (BGIS 2023) has found itself in yet another cheating-related controversy. In a tournament where skill and strategy are put to test, accusations of cheating have shaken the gaming community. The controversy revolves around a player from the Night Owls team, known by the in-game name ‘noCleo.’ After a series of exceptional performances, particularly on the Sanhok map, a cloud of suspicion has enveloped noCleo, prompting some members of the gaming community to demand answers.
The allegations against noCleo first emerged after his outstanding performance during the BGIS 2023 Round 4 Day 1 matches. On Sanhok, he achieved an impressive 12 finishes, a feat that raised eyebrows considering he was an underdog and the sole survivor from his team. Many Spectators were left astounded by his exceptional performance in that match, leading to suspicions of foul play.
To support their claims, accusers have presented three separate video clips from the BGIS 2023 live stream. These clips purportedly showcase moments that fuel suspicions of cheating. Key among these clips are instances where noCleo seemingly exhibits an uncanny level of accuracy and game sense, raising questions about the legitimacy of his gameplay.
noCleo’s Response to Cheating Accusations
In response to the mounting allegations, noCleo took the initiative to address the issue. He uploaded his Point of View (POV) recording of the controversial Sanhok match of BGIS 2023 Round 4 where he secured 12 finishes. However, this move did not entirely put an end to the doubts. Observers noted that the provided footage appeared to be a curated highlight video rather than raw, unedited gameplay. Furthermore, the presence of background music in the video made it challenging for viewers to listen to the in-game communications and calls made by the team.
In light of these observations, the accusers have asked noCleo to release the raw, unedited footage of the match. They argue that only unaltered gameplay can definitively prove or disprove the allegations of cheating.
Disclaimer: It’s important to clarify that ‘Nightowl Esports’ and the team facing allegations, ‘Night Owls,’ are two distinct entities. Despite sharing a similar logo, they do not share an association with each other at all. Both parties have acknowledged the confusion caused by this visual similarity and are actively working towards a resolution. The accusations of cheating remain centered on the specific player’s performance in BGIS 2023 and do not reflect any wrongdoing on the part of ‘Nightowl Esports.’
