Free Fire India is set to launch in the country soon. Garena is bringing the loved battle royale title back after the main title was banned in early 2022 for alleged data privacy concerns. While Free Fire India is essentially the same game, it does have a few differences from the global version. Esports.net takes a look at what they are.

Firstly, why is Garena bringing a separate game instead of just relaunching the original Free Fire game? While the developer hasn’t explicitly stated the reason, it is likely to reassure the Indian government that users’ data is being protected. This is because data privacy was the reason behind the initial ban. The developer has tied up with Yotta, which is a recognized service provider by the Indian Ministry of Electronics and IT, to provide local cloud hosting and storage infrastructure for the game. The developer has also signed an MOU with India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh. As a part of this, it will be bringing esports events to the North Indian state.

As the cloud hosting and storage infrastructure for Free Fire will now be hosted by a different company, Garena has likely introduced a localized version of the game to facilitate this new system in place. Additionally, Free Fire and rival BR title BGMI had been under a lot of political scrutiny before the ban due to cases of gaming addiction associated with the titles. Thus, Garena has made some changes to Free Fire India to make sure this doesn’t happen.

Free Fire India vs. Free Fire Global: What are the differences?

While Free Fire India is yet to be released, Garena has already announced some differences between the game and its global counterpart. Garena has launched the #PlayItRight campaign to promote “safe, healthy, and fun gameplay.”

Besides the changes listed below, the game will likely not have any other changes to the global version other than the different logo and name of course. The updates across both games should be similar too.

Verification System

As a part of this, Free Fire India will have a verification system in place. This will enable parents to have greater supervision over the game. Similar to BGMI, underage players will likely need parental approval to play the game.

Time limitations

The game will also have gameplay limitations. While it’s unclear what these are, it likely means that there will be a daily limit on the amount of time you can spend gaming.

Take a break reminders

Lastly, the title will have ‘take a break reminders.’ If players have been playing for too long, Free Fire India will notify them to take a break from their gaming session.
